The Characters from The Perfect Kiss

Meet Amelia

You are going to love Amelia’s story. She has endured trauma…death and bullying…none of which she’s been able to move past because instead of dealing with it, she buries it. Amelia is an only child, in her mid-thirties, destined to take over her family’s ranch. She accepted the idea of being alone, but started to wonder if a man existed who wouldn’t see her as one of the guys with her tall, powerful frame, but rather as a woman that he could love. As the new owner of Big L’ Ranch, she hires a foreman. Can Quinton open Amelia’s eyes to her true beauty inside and out, or is her trauma too strong?

Meet Quinton

As a widower for the last four years, he focused all his attention on raising his son, who has special needs. Working on a ranch in Texas, another employee became the foreman when Quinton, and the other hired hands thought he deserved it more. After sticking up for his son, he needs to relocate. Moving to Montana, he has to convince the owner of Big L’ Ranch that he was the best man to be foreman. He didn’t expect to be immediately enamored with the owner. Will he and his son find a new home in Montana, or will he push Amelia too far and not make it past the trial run?

These two characters took on a life of their own as I wrote. As I brainstormed, Quinton was more of a grieving widower not sure if he’d ever date again. When the story evolved on the page, that changed. He revealed a strong inclination toward Amelia instantly and pushed her to see herself how he saw her.  He also exhibited some behaviors revealing his overprotectiveness. As a father of a child with special needs he’d dedicated he life to make sure his son came first.

Amelia ended up with a lot more trauma than I initially planned. I’m surprised this woman could even function with all she’s endured. That, however, speaks volumes about her grit and determination to overcome her vulnerability. She has a great group of employees she refers to as family since she only has two blood relatives remaining. She is an inspiration to everyone out there. We’ve all dealt with some type of trauma, but with the right support system, we can be as strong as Amelia.
